What is a Christian?

A Christian is someone who follows Jesus. But it is more, a Christian has given their life to Jesus and now allow him to run things as their Lord and King.

Being a Christian is a life-long activity

Being a Christian is about turning faith into action. All Christians find that their faith develops as they put it into practice. Their faith grows by listening to and applying the preaching and teaching in the church, and through personal and group bible study.

Being a Christian is about praying, or talking to God. Prayer covers:

  • ADORATION - telling God how much we love him
  • CONFESSION - admitting our need of forgiveness when we have sinned against God's laws;
  • THANKSGIVING - for his provision for us and for answered prayers; and
  • SUPPLICATION - where in faith we ask God to do something, whether mundane or huge, and in faith and trust we rely upon him to answer.
    Being a Christian is about witnessing (telling about how important Jesus is to them) to others and all Christians do it. As soon as we become a Christian, we show the world what our faith means to us. However, talking about our faith can be difficult and discipleship helps us to learn our theology and doctrine.

Being a Christian is about Evangelism. This means means deliberately reaching out into the community to explain what Christianity means. Whilst not all Christians have the gift of Evangelism - which simply means explaining the good news about Jesus Christ - we are all called to be involved.

Being a Christian is about loving one another. Jesus said that people would know we belonged to him if we loved each other. Christian love is a marvellous thing.
